Beanie Babies and acrylic on found wood
40 x 40 x 3 1/2 inches
This détourned tableau of 81 Ty Beanie Babies arranged in the form of the BP “Helios” logo humorously links the 90s boom-and-bust of these toys with our current carbon bubble—in which fossil fuel dependent companies are overvalued due to their share prices not accounting for the negative externalities of climate change. The plush animals, each representing a fragile ecosystem, evoke the interrelationship between fossil fuel production, habitat destruction, and nonhuman trauma.
